Loot/Lute

It's interesting that we never really write original music. Even the most groundbreaking artists and composers loot large chunks of their music from other sources. Sometimes the most creative thing we can do is to combine genres and cross barriers. Going back to antiquity, we just take what is already out there and internalize it, try to make it our own. From jesters plucking on lutes to modern-day artists, this trend is apparent. The same is true of writers, especiallly Iowan ones.

More Russell Peters

Yes I have seen the Russell Peters exposition concerning Indians/Chinese business interactions, and I find it to be a truthful, thoughtful reflection on the failings of human nature. "I could have this made in India for two dollars. Why would I pay twenty?"

I got ALL my friends hooked on Russell Peters, and we practically speak in quotations from him videos.

By popular demand, I've posted more Russell Peters here.

Artsy stuff

Some cool modern art. Most of the time modern art flies over my head (like the other sculpture in the square), but the Pacman-esque sculpture caught my eye, recalling happy days wasted in an arcade. The coolest art is that which creates associations and mental tangents. This piece of granite on a pole made me wonder if the artist himself enjoyed the game.

Musings from Iowa

As the shoddy job I've done below with my first post may show, this is my first attempt at blogging. This is a project for a class in the aforementioned activity. More posts to follow.

Wartime Photos

This is the hustle and bustle of downtown Iowa City at lunch hour.

In Westerns, the main street is always eerily quiet before a shootout. When I walk down Clinton Street to class everyday, I always expect a gunfight. Still waiting.
